HOW TO BUY AT LIVE AUCTION

Preview Day
Preview Day is the day prior to the Auction between 10 AM to 4 PM and one hour prior to the Auction on Auction Day.

While attending Preview Day  isn't necessary for a successful auction experience, it is an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the inventory, inspect the items that you are interested in, and to plan your auction strategy.  Because all purchases are sold "as-is" you do not have an automatic right to "back out" of any purchase. Therefore, inspect the vehicles and other items closely during preview.

The vehicles sold at Auction Smart range from late-model cars from the dealers to "fixer-uppers" for mechanics that like a challenge. If you don't know cars inside and out, bring someone with you who does. If you want to start a vehicle, go to the Check-in Counter, present your driver's license, and ask for the keys. The majority of vehicles we sell have keys, however, in some special situations, there may not be keys. Please be sure to read the description for the vehicle which will state if keys are included. If no statement regarding keys is made, you can assume there are keys for the vehicle.

Bidder Check In
Upon arrival at Auction Smart, you will register at the Check-In window to receive a bidder number.  A refundable $300 deposit in cash or credit card is required to bid.  There is no charge for guests/observers to attend the Auction. However they are not allowed to bid.

Bidding
Let the fun begin!  The "lots" will be called up in the order of the Auction Catalog and the auctioneer will announce the lot number and describe the item or vehicle, announcing everything we know about it, whether good or bad. Then the bidding begins.

Vehicles:  Each vehicle will be driven through the building. The process goes quickly.  You can walk around the vehicle, stick your head in the window, feel the air conditioning, and listen to the engine.  As the vehicle come up for auction, the Auctioneer will announce any known issues with the vehicle.  Remember that everything is sold "as-is where-is with no warranty or representation".  Watch as a few vehicles are sold to get a feel for how it works.

Automotive Parts/Accessories: These Lots are displayed around the warehouse and in some instances outside on our lot.  The Auctioneer will either remain on the stand or will move around to the Lots.  The Ring-man may assist in the announcement of these lots, which are clearly labeled with an Auction Smart sign/Lot Number.

Bidding: The auctioneer will suggest a starting price: "Who'll give me one thousand dollars to start?" If nobody wants to start at that price, the auctioneer will lower the amount until someone bids. To bid, simply raise your hand and display your bidder number. A "ring-man" will point to you and shout, "YES" The auctioneer will start asking for higher bids: "I have eight hundred dollars, do I hear nine hundred?"  If someone wants to bid $900, he will raise his bidder number, the ring-man will point to him and shout, "YES" If you raise the bid, the ring-man will point to you and the other person will be out. The process continues until nobody wants to bid any higher: "I have nineteen hundred dollars, who'll give me nineteen-fifty? Going once, twice, third and final call: SOLD!  For nineteen hundred dollars to bidder number 268."  A clerk will write down the winning amount and the buyer number. If yours is the winning bid, the item is now YOURS!  At this point, please go to the office immediately to pay your deposit (for a vehicle or full price for an item).

Payment
When you are done bidding for the day, go to the office and present your bidder number to the cashier. You may pay with Visa, Master Card, Cash, or certified funds.

Vehicles: An additional $300 deposit is required for each vehicle at the time of your successful high bid. The balance is due by 4 PM on the first business day following the Auction.  After you have paid in full for your purchase, you will be given the keys and directed to your vehicle.  You will be asked to present your "PAID" receipt to the lot attendent in order to remove the vehicle from the lot.  All of the vehicles sold at auction have a clean (lien free) title which will be signed over to your name and notarized so that you are able to have it transferred at the Motor Vehicles Department.

Automotive Parts/Accessories/Other Items:  Full payment non-vehicles is required on Auction Day.  Auction Smart assumes no responsibility for the security of the items.  It is up to the successful bidder to remove the items promptly.  Your deposit will be credited toward your purchase or any balance refunded to you.  Items MUST be removed the day of the auction.
